Ingredient Profile: L-Carnitine

When I set out to formulate PNP’s Cardio Surge Energy, the goal was to formulate a powerful cardiovascular and endurance supplement that works with your body’s natural energy pathways to boost energy and stamina. Instead of relying on stimulates that give you the feeling of having more energy, the focus was to use ingredients that work with your body to naturally boost energy and performance.

Although Cardio Surge Energy contains many effective ingredients, one ingredient that stood out repeatedly was L-Carnitine and the many different forms it comes in. For Cardio Surge Energy, three forms of L-Carnitine were selected N-Acetyl L-Carnitine, L-Carnitine Fumarate and L-Carnitine Tartrate.

Here is a look at L-Carnitine and the different forms used in Cardio Surge Energy.

L-Carnitine Intro:

Our awareness of L-Carnitine is nothing new. L-Carnitine was first discovered in Russia, it was decoded in 1927 and its physiological significance was understood by the 1960’s. It has been studied from a health perspective for more than 40 year with countless research studies conducted during that time. In the 1980’s it was used for its fat-burning abilities. However, in recent years L-Carnitine has seen a resurgence along with its many different forms for their athletic performance benefits.

Although there are different forms of L-Carnitine, which provide different benefits, all forms of L-Carnitine help with fat burning, athletic performance and recovery. L-Carnitine’s main function is to transport fatty acids into the mitochondria where fat can then be oxidized to generate adenosine triphosphate (ATP) or energy. L-Carnitine works both during intense physical activity and during rest; however it is most effective and noticeable during times of intense physical activity.

Without adequate L-Carnitine most dietary fats won’t make it into the mitochondria to be burned as fuel. L-Canitine deficiency has shown to prevent a lot more than the ability to adequately burn body fat. L-Carnitine deficiency can lead to muscle weakness, stunted growth and more. On the hand, studies have shown supplementing with L-Carnitine can help keep blood glucose levels low while aiding in glycogen repletion. L-Carnitine has been shown to improve fat metabolization, which improves fat loss and energy levels during physical activity. During physical activity, L-Carnitine lowers lactic acid levels while improving creatine phosphate, one of the primary building blocks of ATP.

Studies have shown, athletes who supplement with L-Carnitine have been able to sustain physical activity more than 25% longer than those who don’t supplement with L-Carnitine. Part of this is due to the fact L-Carnitine will preserve glycogen stores while burning body fat stores and lowering lactic acid levels while boosting creatine phosphate levels.

L-Carnitine improves blood flow and along with it nutrients, oxygen and hormones to transport them where they are needed most during exercise. L-Carnitine reduces oxidative damage and enhances the activity of a key enzyme in the body’s N.O. production, which helps the body during physical activity but can also help the body following physical activity.

It has been found that L-Carnitine supports the amount of testosterone receptors inside the muscle cells. The more of these receptors we have in our muscles, the more testosterone can bind to them and stimulate muscle growth as well as strength gains. Research suggests that L-Carnitine facilitates the action of insulin growth factor 1, which is critical for muscle growth.

Additional to what L-Carnitine provides the three forms of L-Carnitines found in Cardio Surge Energy brings extra benefits. Here is a breakdown on all three.

N-Acetyl L-Carnitine: This form of Carnitine contains an acetic acid group attached to it. It has gained credibility for its ability to enter the blood stream more efficiently and rapidly. It is more readily available to enter the mitochondria and you get a more efficient delivery of fatty acids into the mitochondria for energy verses just L-Carnitine.

N-Acetyl L-Carnitine crosses the blood-brain barrier. It gets converted to acetylcholine, which is a strong neural transmitter which supports with mental focus, improves messages transmitted from our brain to your muscles and helps you feel good during intense training sessions.

L-Carnitine Fumarate: This form of L-Carnitine uses fumaric acid that is part of the natural energy cycle (Krebs Cycle) and is an important part of the regeneration of ATP. It provides extra energy to the cells during the metabolic process. Fumaric Acid give L-Carnitine a boost or super charges it.

L-Carnitine Fumarate has the reputation of improving both athletic performance and endurance. It assists with the conditioning of the heart and blood vessels. As with other forms of Carnitine, this form has gained credibility for its ability to increase blood flow to the muscles and to help the body overcome the effects of fatigue before, during and after exercise.

L-Carnitine Tartrate: This form of L-Carnitine offers several beneficial effects to athletes, especially in terms of recovery from vigorous exercise and in competition itself. In scientific studies L-Carnitine Tartrate has been shown not only to reduce the damage to muscles during strenuous exercise and help to recover faster, but also helps to promote muscle growth itself.

It helps to maintain androgen receptor expression in skeletal muscle. It helps keep the receptors for hormones like testosterone readily available, which is a great benefit to any athlete.

These are some of the main benefits and reasons three forms of L-Carnitine was selected were selected for Cardio Surge Energy. To see Cardio Surge Energy’s full ingredient profile, be sure to visit its product page on our website.
